A North German Lloyd vessel built by John Elder & Company in Glasgow in 1884, the S.S. EMS was a smaller passenger vessel. She was launched on February 27th, 1884 and sailed from Bremen to Southampton to New York on her maiden voyage on June 4th, 1884. Her last Bremen-New York run was on March 14th, 1896. In April of 1896 she was transferred to the Genoa-Naples-New York service until 1900. In 1901, she was sold to Elmer Dempster Line and was renamed Lake Simcoe and ran on the Liverpool-Quebec-Montreal-St. John NB service. She was scrapped in Genoa in 1905.
