S.S. Antonio Lopez


The S.S. Antonio Lopez was launched on 20th of October 1891 by William Dennys and Brothers in Dumbarton, Scotland. Her maiden voyage was on the 14th of January 1892 under the name S.S. Ruahine for Allport and Hughes. On June 23rd, 1892, she started her first passage for the New Zealand Shipping Co. from London to Capetown, Auckland and Wellington. In May of 1900, she was sold to Compagnia Trasatlantica in Bilbao, Spain and renamed S.S. Antonio Lopez to run the Genoa - Naples - Barcelona - Malga - Cadiz - New York - Havana - Vera Cruz route. She was laid up in 1936 at Fire Island, New York and scrapped in 1942 in Cadiz, Spain
