The R.M.S. Carpathia was launched August 6th, 1902 by C.S. Swan & Hunter, Wallsend-on-Tyne for the Cunard SS Company. She sailed her maiden voyage from Liverpool - Queenstown - Boston on May 5th, 1903. From 1903-1905, she was used for many services between Liverpool and Boston, Liverppol and New York, and Trieste and New York. In 1905, she was refitted to carry 100-1st, 200-2nd and 2,250-3rd class passengers. She resumed sailings between Trieste, Fiume, Palermo and New York in October of 1905. On April 18th, 1912, she arrived in New York with 700 Titantic survivors. She commenced her last Piraeus - Messina - Palermo - Naples - Genoa - Lisbon - New York voyage in April of 1915 and was then transferred to the Liverpool - New York service in July 1915. On July 17th,1918, she was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U.55, 120 miles west of Fastnet, with the loss of 5 lives.
