Harland & Wolff, Belfast built the S.S. Cedric in 1902 for the White Star Line. The ship was launched in August of 1902 and traveled from Liverpool to New York on her maiden voyage February 11th, 1903. She continued this service along the Mediterranean until 1914 when she was converted into an Armed Mechant Cruiser. She resumed the Mediterranean sailings in late 1916. On January 29th, 1918 the S.S. Cedric collided with and sank the Canadian Pacific ship S.S. Montreal near the Mersey Bar. After repairs the ship continued its usual service route. The ship continued along this route until it was sold and scrapped in 1932 at Inverkeithing.
