The S.S. Citta Di Napoli was built by Harland & Wolff, Belfast in 1871 as the S.S. Republic for the White Star Line. She was launched on Jul 4th, 1871 and left for Liverpool on her maiden voyage to Queenstown and New York on February 1st, 1872. Her last voyage on this service commenced January 16th, 1889 and was then sold to Holland America Line and renamed S.S. Maasdamn. Re-engined by G.Forrester & Co, Liverpool, and refitted, she started the Rotterdam to New York sailings on March 15th, 1890. March 6th, 1902, she commenced her last voyage between Rotterdam, Boulogne and New York. In 1902, she went to Italian owners and was renamed S.S. Vittoria and later the same year was sold to La Veloce of Genoa Refitted to carry 1,424-3rd class passengers and renamed S.S. Citta Di Napoli. She started sailings between Genoa, Naples and New York on September 30th, 1902. Her thirtieth and last voyage on this route commenced April 27th, 1907. She was sold in 1908 and scrapped in Genoa in 1910.
