S.S. Marine Flasher


The S.S. Marine Flasher was built by Kaiser Shipyard in Vancouver, Washington. She was launched for the U.S. Maritime Commission May 16th, 1945. In early 1946, she was chartered to the United States Lines and fitted with accommodation for 914 tourist class passengers, with her first New York to Le Havre voyage on May 25th that same year. In September 1949, she was returned to the U.S.M.C. and laid up until 1966 when she was sold to Litton Industries Leasing Corp, Wilmington, Delaware. After being sold, she was rebuilt and refitted as the container ship Long Beach and sold again to Reynolds Leasing Corp. In 1988, she grounded at San Juan becoming a constructive total loss.
