Anasaldo & Company in 1930 and launched by the Navigazone Generale Italia in August 1931. In January 1932, she came under ownership of the Italia Line and started her Maiden Voyage September 27, 1932 sailing from Genoa to Naples to Gibraltar, and New York. In 1933, the vessel won the Blue Riband for the fastest westbound crossing of the Atlantic. Her last voyage was on April 30th, 1940. Between 1940 and 1944 she was laid up in Pula, Yugoslavia. On September 8th, 1944 Rex was bombed and sunk by a British beaucraft. It was salvaged and scrapped in Yugoslavia in 1948.
