The S.S. San Giorgio launched on April 10th, 1907 by Sir James Laing & Sons for Sicula Americana. The vessels maiden voyage was on July 19th, 1907 leaving Naples for Messina, Palermo, and New York. In 1917, ownership of the liner was transferred to Transoceanica Societa Italiana di Navigazone. Her last voyage under the San Giorgio name was in September 1921 from Naples to New York. In late 1921, the ship again changed ownership to Navigazone Generale Italiana and the name was changed to Napoli. It was scrapped in 1926.

Luigi Fulgenzi (Born: 1898) left Calascio, Italy for the port of Naples to board this vessel on the 5th of September 1921 steering towards Springfield, IL after hitting the mainland. He was one of the last few people to travel on this boat under the name of San Giorgio. Luigi’s brother Nicola had already immigrated and was currently residing in Springfield.
