S.S. Vincenzo Florio


The S.S. Vincenzo Florio was built by A. Stephen & Sons in Glasgow when she was launched March 29th, 1880 for Florio,Palermo. She began her maiden voyage on May 22nd, 1880 sailing between Catania - Messina - Palermo - New York. In late 1881, she was tranferred to the Navigazione Generale Italiana. Her first voyage under these owners was on September 18th, 1881 sailing from Palmermo to Malaga to New York. In 1885, she was used on transport duties to Eritrea before transferring to the South America run. Between 1900 and 1906 she made 29 North Atlantic voyages. In 1910, she was sold to Soc. Nazionale di Servizi Marittimi being used for miscellaneous services until she was scrapped in 1923.
