John Elder & Company launched the build of the S.S. Werra on July 4th, 1882 which she made her maiden voyage that following October from Bremen to New York. This was the normal route until November of 1891 when it was sold and began the Genoa, Italy, to New York route. The Werra made her final run from Genoa to Naples, to New York August 28th, 1901. It was scrapped in 1903.
